The Essex Pelargonium Society was formed in January 2002, formerly the Southend Geranium Group, for all interested in growing plants of the Geraniaceae family, commonly known as pelargoniums, geraniums, sarcocaulons, monsonia and erodiums. The Society is affiliated to two National Societies : The British & European Geranium Society, & The Royal Horticultural Society.
The Essex Pelargonium Society aims to give you the opportunity to talk to others with similar interests and grow and show these popular plants, or merely to grow for display in the greenhouse or garden. Membership will give you the opportunity to obtain those rare species, and increase your knowledge and understanding of this fascinating family of quite beautiful cultivars.
The Essex Pelargonium Society holds regular monthly meetings on the first Thursday of the month from February to November, with speakers, slide shows, hands on practical demonstrations, with plants for sale at most meetings. We have a library of Pelargonium / geranium Books from all the popular authors - these are loaned out to members only. Our meetings are held at the Trinity Sports & Social Club Rooms. Eastern Avenue, Southend-on-Sea, 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm.
We also have day excursions from time to time and even holidays on the Pelargonium theme. We have been to the PAC Nursery in Germany three times now where we have always had a warm welcome. In 2005 we presented Mr. Elsner with a memento of a hand-painted crest depicting the three visits. Below you can see EPS Hon. Secretary Dick Hampshire, presenting it to Mr. Elsner and his daughter Andrea.

All are welcome to EPS events. For days and dates of our meetings please contact the Secretary, as listed below.
The Annual Show for 2006 is planned for Saturday 17th June, at the Southend Civic Centre, of Southend-on-Sea Borough Council Offices. Entrance free to members and children, £1 for visitors. It has 47 classes, all "open" (open for exhibiting by non-members). The show Schedule should be available from January and includes notice of the School Children's "Grow a Pelargonium" competition. The Society encourages children to grow pelargoniums in Essex, by providing 300 plants each year to be distributed amongst 3 schools for the children to grow-on for exhibiting in their own competition at the Annual Show.
The Society issues quarterly newsletters which keep members up to date with the activities of the Essex Pelargonium Society, supply the latest information of Pelargonium/geranium news.
